Notes:
This is a promotional artwork from my in-the-works graphic novel with the working title the Shelby Bly Project. This is considered a non-spoiler artwork (I call “spoilers” anything that hints at what takes place after Chapter 1).
I created this artwork to illustrate one of the more important aspects of Shelby’s character. Although Shelby was taught how to use a gun, she never in her life imagined she would actually need to use it one day. The very thought of having to kill anyone or anything greatly disturbs her. She’s not your typical “kill everything in sight without giving a damn” action/adventure character. It’s one of the character aspects that separates her from most of the adventure heroines I’ve read/seen in other media.
I first created an artwork like this in November of 2016. I decided now to create a new version in Poser 12 Superfly with the updated Shelby Bly character. The new version isn’t an exact copy and it isn’t meant to be as I made various improvements. I think I like this version much better.
Technical Notes:
I rendered this scene in Superfly with a heavy depth of field effect. The lights were a preset from Superfly Studio. The tears on Shelby’s face were not added in postwork but are actually texture based and added onto her base textures with lots of math nodes. In postwork, I used about four Photoshop actions to create the look I wanted for the overall image and then I added a strong vignette effect.
