I came up with the idea for this piece simply after hearing the theme of the new render challenge over at Hivewire3D (wonderful place, you should check it out!) which is “We Are All In This Together“. Unfortunately, the contest requires that at least three products from the store’s challenge category be used in the render and I couldn’t figure out how to incorporate any of the products from that category into my idea. UNTIL NOW! I finally had a little lightbulb go off over my head the other night and figured out I could make little scenes featuring products from the categories and put them on the hospital room’s TV and painting on the wall. Now the scene has products from the category! I don’t know yet if this will qualify or not but I’m certainly going to try to enter this artwork into the contest because I really like this one.
UPDATE: It qualifies and Hivewire3D featured this artwork in their September 11th newsletter! I’ll update this post again when the results of the challenge are announced if I am lucky enough to place in the contest.
UPDATE 2: I won Honorable Mention in the contest! I received a $25 gift certificate from Hivewire too! I’m a happy little artist right now. Congrats to all the winners and to everyone who entered. Thank you to the judges and to everyone at Hivewire3D!
I rendered this scene fully in Superfly though it was slightly more than my GPU could handle in one go so I had to render it in two pieces then combine the pieces in Photoshop. In postwork, I used a few Photoshop actions to play around with the colors and contrast. The lightning bolt in the window was added in postwork using a brush and Photoshop layer style. I also added a very slight orange glow to the TV screen and fixed a few pokethroughs and other errors here and there.
