Notes:
I wanted to create a cool new scene to celebrate the upcoming second season of one of my favorite TV shows, The Orville, and this is what I came up with. I love the trippy colors and you can’t go wrong with the classic sci-fi “double planet” setup. I can’t wait for the new season as the previews all look awesome. I’ll probably create more Orville art after the new season starts.
Technical Notes:
I used both an IBL and IDL lighting setup for this one. Why? Because that’s what looked the best! The planets and space background elements were created using high-res textures from Renderosity (which are sadly no longer available). I created my own shaders for the ship back when I created the An Exploratory Vessel artwork though I slightly altered them so that the Orville designation was a bit more clear. I ran the raw render though the Topaz ReStyle filter a few times on different layers which I then combined to create the colors you see here. I also rendered the lights and engine glow separately so I could enhance said glows in postwork. I then enhanced the contrast a bit, added a motion blur, and finally a thin border to finish the postwork.
