Notes:
I originally created an artwork with this idea of a half-woman, half-cephalopod back in 2014 and then the other day I got an idea on how I could improve it so I did! The scene is a mixture of raw render with two separate figures combined with tricky posing plus a generous amount of postwork to create the final scene. The original 2014 version was just the cecaelia figure alone in dark water. For this 2020 version, I added the water surface effects and changed the pose plus I rendered it in Superfly unlike the original. For more info, check the Tech Notes below. This will probably be my last redux for a while, I’m ready to tackle something brand new and completely different for my next art project. Maybe…
Technical Notes:
The cecaelia figure is a combination of an octopus figure and Victoria 4 put together with tricky posing and selective transparency. The figure was rendered in Superfly on a transparent background with a custom light setup. The background, waterline effect, and bubbles were all created in postwork with various brushes and gradients on separate layers. I also used a few Photoshop actions to adjust the colors and contrast of the entire scene and then a Photoshop plugin to finish it.
