She has suffered for far too long, beyond her breaking point. It’s time to give up and put an end to the pain once and for all.

Notes:
This is a complete recreation of an artwork I created back in February of 2009 during a very deep depression. I reworked the scene once in late 2011 during another deep depression but realized it still needed some fixing when I gave it another look here recently. So even though I’m not terribly depressed at this particular moment in time, I was still able to make this dark artwork even darker with some added details and enhancements. It’s a little freighting how easy it is for me to get into the mindset to create such an artwork as this.
In case you can’t tell, the character is writing a suicide note… thus the “giving up” title. I wanted the scene to be dimly lit like it’s happening at night with only a single light or two turned on. I did this because it always seems to be at night when I contemplate such things.
Technical Notes:
I took my time and put a lot of thought into the creation of this scene, maybe too much. The original version didn’t have the pills on the table or the gun in the desk drawer. The only real trouble I had with this artwork was getting the lighting right but I’m quite pleased with the final result. I did an average amount of postwork which mainly included touching up a few errors like poke-throughs in her clothes and then adding some grunge overlays to give it a darker vintage look.
