Notes:
This was inspired by, but is not a recreation of, an older artwork of mine from way back in 2006 that I lost of the title of but still managed to find the image on one of my backup hard drives. I’ve been feeling much the same as I did then and that, the fact that in nine years nothing has improved, inspired this new artwork. I thought I had it finished a couple days ago but decided to go back and change a few things today which I believe vastly improved the finished work.
Technical Notes:
The lighting for this scene was crucial for the overall mood and feel. I wanted the only sources of light to be the light coming in through the window and from the table lamp. It took a lot of trial and error before I finally got it all to look “just right”. The storm seen through the window was added in postwork using a stock photo and water droplet brushes plus a few layer adjustments. When I first thought I had this scene finished, there was no depth of field effect. When I looked at it again I realized that without a depth of field effect, the piece looked flat which is why I went back and rendered it again. I used a few Photoshop actions, added a thin border, and enhanced the details/contrast/color a bit before finally calling the work finished.
