I created this artwork for the 2020 Renderosity Halloween Contest. The theme for this year is “Costumes, Cauldrons, and Concoctions.” You can create up to three entries this year and this is my first which tackles both the “costume” and the “cauldron” themes. Most of the entries posted already were typical Halloween gothic horror or the like. I decided to go a different direction and do something modern and slightly cute so my entry would stand out. I hope it works! I can’t post this on my website until after the winners are announced in October so I’ll be updating this before I post it with the results of the contest.
I also wish to thank my mom for nitpicking the hell out of this scene for me and telling me everything I did wrong so I could fix it and make it into the scene it is now. Thanks, Mom!
I rendered this scene in Poser 11 with the Superfly render engine. I decided against depth of field in the room as it is a small entryway room and there is depth of field outside the window. (The scene outside the window is a heavily edited stock photo from a stock photo resource website.) The scene is lit by two lights; an area light in front of the scene where a lamp prop you can’t see in the final render is and a point light on the ceiling where another light fixture is that you can’t see in the final render. The woman’s clothing (both shirt and jeans) are dynamic cloth but the boy’s onesie is actually conforming clothing. Postwork was mainly using a couple Photoshop actions to enhance the colors and contrast then I used a few more adjustment layers to continue to enhance the image until I got the look that I wanted.
