I created an artwork similar to this a few years ago that was just a simple, quick little fun render for a contest. I liked that render but, like I said, it was just a quick little for fun render that I didn’t spend nearly enough time on for it to be good enough even though I really loved the silly concept of it. I finally went back and gave that silly concept the time and respect… or at least the time it deserved. I wanted it to look “epic” so I added the melting candles which seemed to add an “epic” atmosphere at least to me. I also gave it a slightly vintage look and feel with the coloring of the books and overall coloring of the scene. There’s not really a deep meaning to this piece, unless you interpret one for yourself; it really is just a case of me having fun.
The main character is based on the Cookie figure using a character I created called Meringue (now available at Daz3D). Although I had the original scene I created from 2011 (was it 2011? I can’t remember now) I pretty much threw out everything and started over. I kept the book stacks and added more but everything else was replaced and/or improved. The lighting is a combination of IDL and the lighting included with those awesome candle props by MortemVentus (Realis Lumina) and then I adjusted the scene’s coloring with a lot of adjustment layers and actions in Photoshop. The depth of field effect was rendered inside of Poser (I’ve noticed that the depth of field seems to render faster in Poser 11 Pro than it did in previous versions of Poser for which I am oh so glad because I’ve finally learned how to get great results with it).
