From Our Past

I created this artwork for the 2018 holiday contest over at Renderosity. The theme for this year’s contest is “Ghosts of Christmas Past”. I wanted to do a slightly different take on the theme where both the ghost and the living person are tormented, not by each other but by being apart from each other. I only found out about the contest a couple days before its deadline so I didn’t have much time to come up with an idea or to create it but I managed to finish this thanks to a few sleepless nights.

This features my Nicola 3 character with a modified skin and shaders (I made her nearly but not quite a pale white so she would look more ghostly). The photos in the picture frames are renders I created a few years ago for my artwork All That Remains, and I decided to reuse them here to save time. I created the ghost effect by rendering the scene three times with the ghost either visible or not then combined the layers with different opacities and effects in Photoshop. I used a lot of adjustment layers to get the final look I wanted. I think the image file has over twenty layers in total.
