Stepping Up My Game
This June, Dream 9 Studios will be ten years old. (It was founded June 09, 2006.) I’ve come a long way with my art and art business since then but I am always learning more and becoming a better artist. I went from mainly toon style renders to realistic and conceptual artworks in this ten year span. Granted, I started working in digital art in 1999 and really devoted myself to 3D digital art starting in 2003 but I didn’t get serious about myself and my art until that fateful day in 2006. I need to come up with something special to celebrate the 10th anniversary but I’m not sure what that could be just yet. I have a couple months yet to figure something out. It is a nice time to reflect on where I’ve been and look forward to where I’m going.
Last weekend, I went to my first comic con and was blown away by the artworks I saw created by the many artists featured there in the huge main hall. It was greatly inspiring and encouraging. (I also picked up a artwork print myself of Harley Quinn! I still need to find a frame for it and see if I can find the artist’s website because it’s just that awesome of an artwork.) I now want to step up in creating comic con style artworks (works which could eventually find their way into my Media Inspired gallery in the Art Galleries of my website). I want to be able to one day apply for a spot in a comic con’s artist alley and have a wide variety of artworks for sale to my fellow geeks. So far my offerings would be quite minimal but that will soon change. I’ll start working on these styles of artworks soon. I’m gathering up all relevant ideas from my notebooks and coming up with new ones to sketch out. Stay tuned!
For now, I have two brand new artworks to share with you; my first artworks of 2016! The first is named False Reflections and can be found both in the Conceptual Surreality and the Strong Emotions galleries. It’s a redux of sorts of an artwork I created back in 2009. I still have the same thoughts/emotions as I did then for the piece so I created a brand new version using my vastly improved skills. I’m quite pleased with how it turned out. I decided, with this one, rather than explain what I was feeling and thinking when I created this artwork I decided instead to keep the description short and leave the piece up to interpretation of the viewer.
My next new artwork to show you is titled Blush Romance and is my first Still Life since 2012. It is a completely brand new artwork that I first sketched out around Valentine’s Day thus its subject. Both of these artworks were technical achievements for me with Blush Romance using a new lighting method (new to me) and in False Reflections I used several new techniques to get an effect like I had never created before. In terms of my art, 2016 is off to a fantastic start.
I have started a new promotion where all new artwork prints will start off in the D9S Art Shop with a 10% introductory discount; no coupon codes required. False Reflections and Blush Romance are now both in the D9S Art Shop with the 10% intro discount on all print sizes.
