The Enigma Zone

This started out as just a scene of a mysterious woman on a train that I was going to call “Enigma”, but I couldn’t get it looking good enough. That’s when my muse was struck by some massive inspiration! I realized that with a few added elements, mainly the addition of a Rod Serling-esque figure in the foreground and a gremlin out the window plus changing the scene to stark black and white, this could be a Twilight Zone homage that’s perfect for the current Nostalgia TV Contest over at Renderosity!! Which also means I can’t publicly post this until the contest is over in September. I just hope the voters like it as I put a lot of work in this one. I hope to be able to update this post with some good news when I publish it in September!

EDIT: I didn’t place in the contest but at least I had some fun creating this. 

I tried to mimic the lighting of the Twilight Zone TV show by using spotlights. I used one spotlight inside the train car, one outside on the narrator, and another outside the train car on the gremlin. This gave the scene a stark look even in full color. The scene outside the window was rendered separately. I rendered a scene of trees and sky then in Photoshop I used a heavy motion blur on it. I then rendered a scene of an electric pole on a transparent background then took it into Photoshop and used a slightly less heavy motion blur on it. I then combined the two renders and put them on a flat plane which I placed outside the train window. Once the full scene was rendered in Poser 12 Superfly, I took it into Photoshop where I added the cigarette smoke with a brush and a sort of tie around the curtain with another brush. I also added a glow around the gremlin’s eyes. The black and white effects were all done in Lightroom.
